Using Search Engine Optimisation within your Marketing to deliver measurable results

One of the main areas of focus for savvy Marketing Professionals is to achieve Page 1 ranking on Google. Even though this is the case, some PR Professionals have yet to embrace the search engine optimisation tactics that will ultimately enable them to do so.

There are various elements to Search Engine Optimisation, many of which can be implemented via the content management system (CMS) of your website.  Through regular updates in content to your site and a combination of intricate HTML coding, Meta Tags, Alt Tags, Title Tags etc, your website will quickly become indexed by Google and in time, appear in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). The success of a website as far as the search engines are concerned is largely to do with the make-up of the site from the back-end (CMS), not how ‘flashy’ the site looks to the user.

A fundamental aspect of SEO is keyword research. Website content should be keyword rich but not saturated as this will be have a detrimental effect on the ranking. Although the data that you put in to the Content Management System of your website is a large portion of the SEO process, the term ‘Search Engine Optimisation’ doesn’t just mean optimising a website for search engines, it also applies when publishing ANY content online.

The quickest way to attract relevant traffic to your website is to offer links to specific pages of it from the content that you publish online. In the first instance, this will generate a stream of relevant enquiries (irrespective of your ranking on Google) and in time, the ranking will improve with the help of the high quality, relevant inbound links that are pointing to your website from the content that you have published.

When concentrating on publishing content online, in whatever format, you should always remember to include keywords in the title (and in the URL wherever possible).

SEO can be incorporated when publishing press releases, Youtube videos, podcasts, brochures, blog posts and when using social networking etc. These are just a handful of measurable marketing methods that can dramatically assist with your overall SEO strategy. As many experts have said before, ‘Content is King’ – the more relevant, keyword rich content published, the better.  Search engines (such as Google) love regular content updates to a website and it is worth bearing in mind that SEO is not a one off task but an ongoing process that can be incorporated to your every day marketing plan to drastically increase the level of enquiries that you receive.
