It is not essential to optimise your news although optimisation will make it possible for the reader to click through to relevant pages of your website if they are interested in what you have to say. Because Press Releases are distributed on your behalf, these will be picked up from a number of sources and potentially published elsewhere – by choosing to upgrade to our optimised Press Release option, you will ultimately see an increase in traffic to your site and your ranking on the search engines will improve.
To optimise news using Industry Today, you will need to create an account and select ‘Submit News‘. You will then need to select the ‘Optimised Press Release – £36′ option and fill out your payment details via Paypal. You can either pay with a credit card or with a registered Paypal account. Once you have done this, you need to return to ‘Simply Marcomms’ (this will take you back to the Industry Today page where you can then upload your Press Release and optimise your news using the following guidelines:
Title – insert a title which explains what your news is about including a relevant keyword for search engine purposes. Make sure that this contains upper and lower case (not all in capitals).
Press Release Summary – This text is used as a summary of your press release on the main category page. Keep if fairly short and try to explain the content of your press release. This is also used in our news feeds.
Press Release Content – Copy and paste the main body of text (without the summary section) by clicking on the clipboard icon and dropping the text in the blue box.
To include links back to pages of your website, highlight the text and click on the ‘link’ icon and insert the URL (web address). It is best to have about 1 link per 100 words and these should link to a relevant page of your site (choose a keyword in the text and link this to the page about that subject).
You can also use the same icon to make your email address a live link – to do this you will need to select ‘email’ from the drop down menu in the blue box and insert the address.
Images – If you want to insert an image, you will need to select this from your files. The image will need to be re-sized using a programme like HP Image Zone, Irfanview or something similar to the following dimensions: 258px × 174px – saved as JPG
Meta Description – Enter a short description of your press release. Try to make it a little different than your summary and think about phrases that people may type into search engines when looking for your release.
Meta Keywords – Enter a series of keywords and key phrases that users may type into a search engine when looking for your press release. Separate each keyword or phrase with a comma. We suggest a maximum of 10 keywords in this box.
Preview your release – to check that you are happy with the way it looks
Submit – all finished! You will then be notified once this has been published
